It is a highly scalable and efficient transformer model trained directly on videos. Thanks to it, it is capable of generating physically accurate, consistent and eventful shots.

Unlike its competitors, Luma Dream Machine AI is the first freely and publicly available video generator. It allows you to create 5-second hight-quality video clips from text prompts or to infuse motion into your image. The quality of the videos is impressive, but it certainly has some limitations. For instance, even though the videos are visually compelling, there may be minor inaccuracies and morphing issues. Regardless, Dream Machine understands how people, animals and objects interact with the physical world.

How are Clips Generated?

The process of generating videos is really fast, usually taking no more than 2 minutes. Luma states that it can generate 120 frames in 120 seconds. Once the video is ready, you can preview it. If you like it, you can save it to your account or download it.

Luma Dream machine is free but demand for Dream Machine has been high. As a result, Luma introduced a queuing system, with temporarily limiting free accounts from 5 to 10 generations/day. The free account is limited to 30 generations per month and no commercial use. On the other hand, paid accounts have priority in the queue and no daily limit. They also do not contain watermark as in case of free account.

1. Text prompt - Dragon

Firstly, we will test how precisely the Luma AI Dream machine generates clips based on our text instructions. To do so, we used the following prompt:

Prompt:
In a picturesque valley bathed in the golden hues of sunset, a young girl named Elara with flowing brown hair and sparkling green eyes gently brushes her sturdy donkey, Finn. Setting off to explore the ancient forest across the river, they discover a shimmering silver lake. Their adventure takes a dramatic turn when a magnificent emerald-scaled dragon emerges, its piercing yellow eyes filled with ancient wisdom.

As the ground trembles, a knight in shining armor, Sir Cedric, appears, ready to protect Elara and Finn. But Elara, with her pure heart and bravery, mediates peace between the knight and the dragon, revealing an ancient prophecy of harmony.

Together, Elara, Finn, Sir Cedric, and the dragon ensure the valley remains a place of magic and tranquility, standing united as night falls and the valley sparkles with the light of fireflies under a full moon.

Inaccuracies - How precisely video follows prompt instructions:

  1. Picturesque valley bathed in the golden hues of sunset - OK.

  3. Donkey Finn - NN, Fin is missing or it is combined with the dragon character.
  4. The ancient forest across the river - OK.
  5. A shimmering silver lake - OK.
  6. Magnificent emerald-scaled dragon emerges with ts piercing yellow eyes filled with ancient wisdom - NO, combined with Finn the donkey; seems the dragon is on the donkey's back.

Visual glitches:

  1. Donkey's front left leg is not visible for a short time when walking.
  2. The donkey is walking in the air.
  3. The left hand of "Sir Cedric" is rotated 180 degrees.
  4. Elar's right forearm is not visible during the entire walk.
  5. The fingers of both human characters are not generated correctly.
  6. Elara and Sir Cedric are initially shown without cloaks, but the cloaks become visible when they finish walking.

2. Photo Prompt - Walking in Nature

We captured a real photo and video while walking in nature. Our objective is to compare how well the AI-generated video aligns with the real-life footage we recorded.

Here is the AI-generated video based on the real photo in Figure 1:

Result:

The level of detail in the real video is higher, and the grass, path with stones, and foliage in the treetops look more realistic compared to the AI-generated video. Nevertheless, the Luma AI did an impressive job. The videos are nearly identical at first glance, despite the real video being twice as long.

3. Photo Prompt - Eagle

Now, we we will test how Luna AI Deram machine can process they flying objects. The photo of the "eagle" is an image created by Hotpot AI image generator. A large eagle is closest to the observer, with three other birds flying in the sky. In the background, there is a structure resembling a church steeple with a cross. However, the tower looks more like a chimney than a steeple.

Obviously, the video is the less realistic from all AI generated videos. Here are the glitches:

  1. Objects 1 and 4 are static - they are motionless in the air and their wings are not moving.
  2. Bird number 3 starts to fly but suddenly disappears from the video.
  3. Bird number 2 appears to crash into the cross.
  4. Object 5 on the left is difficult to identify, but resembles a cat.

4. Photo prompt - Class

The photo of the teacher with the students is also generated by artificial intelligence. The photo seems to look almost realistic, but there are still some chronic problems that are presented in the AI-generated images. For example, the teacher's index finger on the right hand is twisted and the eyebrow on the face of pupil number 3 also does not look realistic.

Visual glitches:

  1. The chair behind the teacher's back is empty, but as the teacher moves, the student appears to be sitting on this chair.
  2. Pupil 2's face is blurred as the teacher moves behind the pupil's back.
  3. The color and shape of pupil number 2's glasses will change when the teacher stops his movement.
  4. Pupil 2's hairstyle changes when the teacher moves.
  5. The palm and fingers of pupil number 2 are not formed correctly. First they are missing and then the fingers are too big compared to his hand.
  6. The colour and shape of the watch on the teacher's wrist have been changed.
  7. The pupil sitting in front of the school board with the green rectangle is no longer visible after the teacher completes his movement.
  8. Teacher's fingers are not displayed properly when he moves. They appear twisted, and some fingers are missing.
  9. The green rectangle is changing its size.
  10. The green rectangle doubled in size after the teacher finished his movement.
  11. Unknown object at the back of the classroom. Is it a chair?

5. Art Videos

Although video clips generated by Luma AI have serious issues, some videos are truly pieces of art. For instance, in this demonstration, Luma adds movement to photos, and the results are truly impressive.
